IDC Technologies’ Arc Flash & Isolation Safety Conference was held at the Novotel Langley Hotel in Perth on the 26th & 27th August 2015.
The conference’s keynote speakers were; Brett Cleaves, the Director of Engineering Safety from New South Wales. As well as Canadian guest Terry Becker, the President & CEO of Electrical Safety Program Solution. Other speakers included at the conference came from a range of national and internationally renowned organisations such as Eaton USA, Sentient, Honeywell Safety Products, Powerplan, Department of Mines and Petroleum WA, ABB, and many more.
Day one of the conference opened with Brett Cleaves presenting a one hour keynote address entitled Recent changes to arc flash standards and hazard reduction equipment: what does this mean for Australian workplaces? This presentation stood out highly among the audience, with hands being raised shortly after for questions. The feedback received by delegates had this presentation session voted the most valuable among all at the conference.
Doug Bester, the Technical Director of Sentient presented later in the afternoon with his presentation entitled Safety first with virtual simulation. Doug used the innovative oculus rift to display an interactive virtual 3D simulation of high voltage switching. This technology was applauded by the crowd and many had the opportunity to try the oculus simulation themselves.
The delegates adjourned for the day with speakers, sponsors and delegates socialising over a drink or two at the Arc Flash & Isolation Safety Conference Networking Session.
Terry Becker graced the conference with his expertise all the way from Canada with his keynote topic entitled Risk assessment procedures and the new arc flash PPE category. This presentation discussed the 2015 editions of NFPA 70E and the Canadian equivalent CSA Z462. Terry covered the significant changes further aligning them with occupational health & safety management system standards and risk assessment standards. Two key changes are the requirement to complete a risk assessment procedure and the deletion of the hazard/risk category (HRC) table method and any reference to HRC.
The delegates highly rated Terry Becker voting him one of the most valued speakers at the event. Terry was swarmed with multiple questions and answers sessions straight after his presentation and during the breaks. A man in the arc flash industry not to be missed.
The response from delegates has been overwhelming! IDC Technologies was privileged to have a great selection of speakers and delegates attend this event which provided an opportunity for attendees to discuss important issues affecting the arc flash industry in Australia. The mix of professional expertise and industry knowledge at the conference created an interactive and engaging conference.
