Safety Control Systems & Hazardous Areas Conference – South Africa

IDC Technologies successfully held their first South African conference for 2015 last week on the 27th & 28th May. The conference focused on the two key topics; Safety Control Systems, and Hazardous Areas.

The conference featured sixteen presentations, including two keynote presentations from Gary Friend (Extech Safety Systems), and Ian Hetherington (Vantage). The conference welcomed speakers from TÜV Rheinland, Exida South Africa,  and BFluor Chemicals, to name a few.

Day one of the conference commenced with keynote speaker Ian Hetherington presenting a one hour paper entitled CE Compliance and South African Machinery Regulations. The paper discussed the global corporate influence on local operations in South Africa to comply with CE, and how South African industries can obtain the CE Mark

Another presentation on day one which should be mentioned was entitled Industrial Cyber Security and Control Systems– Protection against Cyber Threats, and was presented by Cobus Pool (Proconics). The presentation summarised the international and local state of affairs, investigate the threat landscape and international best practice.

Day two of the conference began with a keynote presentation from Gary Friend (Extech Safety Systems) and was entitled Exi: Intrinsic Safety. The presentation looked at the origins and principles of IS, including hazardous area zoning and the implications

IDC Technologies would like to make special mention of Gary Friend who was rated the most valuable speaker at the conference.

The response from delegates has been overwhelming! IDC Technologies was privileged to have a great selection of speakers and delegates attend this event which provided an opportunity for attendees to discuss important issues affecting both the safety control systems, and hazardous areas industries in South Africa, and globally.
