Braving the below zero temperatures, IDC Technologies hosted the 4th Safety Control Systems Conference in Calgary, Canada on 25th & 26th November. The event was anything but cold, and hot topics attracted delegates from local and international companies such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, AMEC, Dynamysk, Emerson, Lloyd’s Register, ABB and Cristal Suncor Energy, just to name a few.
The pre-conference workshops opened the door to intelligent debate, setting the stage for what was an informative and impactful conference.
Renowned keynote speaker Paul Gruhn from Rockwell Automation USA opened the conference with a fantastic keynote address on Process Safety accidents – lessons learned the hard way and how to avoid them. The rest of the morning featured papers from MEG Energy, Siemens and Dynamysk. In the afternoon we had the pleasure of introducing Sean Carron from Combustion Solutions Inc. who presented a paper on Practical burner management solutions for multiple burner furnaces, giving delegates an update on the use of innovative methods to meet the stringent Canadian codes for a 96 burner ethylene cracking furnace.
Day two of the conference featured presentations from BBA Inc., AMEC Americas and Lloyd’s Register Consulting. Special mention goes to Jenny Wilson from Dynamysk, who was a last-minute stand in for Sam Kozma (SIL4 Solutions Inc.). Jenny delivered a fantastic presentation on Looking beyond certification, and her knowledgeable and poised demeanour was a great addition to the proceedings.
We were privileged to have a great selection of speakers and delegates attend this event which provided an opportunity for attendees to discuss important issues affecting the industry in Canada. The mix of professional expertise and industry knowledge at the conference created an interactive and engaging conference which we plan to run again in 2016. If you would like to be involved in this future event please contact IDC to express interest.
